Was it 'Boy From Space' from the Look & Read educational series? I'm 29 and we watched it at school. Also in the series was 'Badgergirl'; 'Dark Towers'; 'The Fairground'; 'Geordie Racer' and a few others that escape me. Hope this is what you're looking for!

1983 Jeremy Licth in the "Twilight Zone Movie". Spooky little vignette in that four-part movie. The 10 year old boy held his family and then also a woman in an alternative reality that his young, twisted mind had created. He could do anything, and to anyone, that he wanted to by just thinking it. He had been terrorizing his poor family for who knows how long when a lady arrives, observes, and then buddies up with the little monster, for who knows whatever reason. You may have also seen around then a re-run of the old TV Twilight Zone series in which Billy Mumy (?) played the part of the boy in the original version. Innocently, I took my young children to see the movie in 1983. When that HORRIFYING jack rabbit popped out in that scene, my children were so frightened, they spent the rest of the day at the ER with asthma attacks! That scene still gives me the creeps to this day.

Oh! Damn you tunachunks - that really rings a bell and I can't for the life of me remember it clearly. I will have a really good think and update if I come up with anything! Or, hopefully, someone else will.
*update* Reading the answers before mine, I really think that it might be Chocky - that sounds right I think. Ahhh - my brain hurts.

I remember the show, but the name escapes me. I think Ricky Schroeder might have played the kid, but I'm not sure The show was really strange.
