$2730=70%
therefore 100%=$3900

If sofa is 20% of bedroom set, then together they equal 120%

I think you should work out the next step, because that way you'll see how it works. But all you need to do is divide by 120 and multiply by 20 for the sofa.

Discount of 30% so 70% = 2730
100% = 2730/0.7 = 3900

a) amt saved = 30% = 0.3 x 3900 = 1170

b)
Bedroom set = x
Sofa = 0.2x
Total = 1.2x = 3900
Therefore, x = 3250

Price of sofa = 0.2x = 0.2(3250) = 650

she saved 1170 dollars, price of sofa 650 dol
x = price of sofa, 5x is price of bedroom set .
total paid 2730 so 2730 is 70% divide 2730 by 70 multiply by 100, total orignal cost = 3900, before discount, divide it by 6 u get price of sofa

x : bedroom set
y : sofa

y = 0.2 * x

x + y = x + .2x = 1.2 x = total buy
1.2x - .3(1.2x) = 2730$ total paid ---> x = 3250 bedroom set price

a) discount amount = total buy - total paid --> (3250 + 650) - 2730 = 1170
b) sofa price = y = .2 * 3250 = 650$
