I think the 2000's are better because people have more rights now and can not get away with racism like they once could, though the 1950's were a simpler time, today technology ,as in medical and in scientific,is a lot more advanced. A lot of people died from conditions that can be easily treated today. People care more about their health now and what they eat as opposed to the 1950's where they were more concerned as to what just tasted good. Women and minorities in the 1950's had limited choices where today there are countless opportunities. I think the differences in the people from the 1950's and today is that we take these opportunities for granted like they are always going to be around but people in the 1950's fought for these opportunities and would appreciate them to the fullest if given the opportunity. I do think families were a lot closer back then and cared more about tradition. Also everything that bothers us from A to Z has a name for it whereas in the 1950's, one just learned to cope with it. I never lived in the 1950's but from what I heard from my mother, you could buy a lot with a dollar, even a nickel. A dollar nowadays won't get you halfway there.Music and movies were wholesome back then and talked of love and having a good time. Now it's sex,bling-bling,living the gangsta life and glorifying crime. But I'm not knocking the music today, I am just speaking the facts. My list of comparisions and differences could go on and on.

1950s:
Pro:
We ate a better diet (no fast food; little sugar).
Children were better disciplined.
There was more common courtesy.
High academic standards.
The population was literally half what it is now (look it up!).
Con:
Medical science was less advanced.
Women's clothing was less comfortable.
2000s:
Pro:
Excellent health care.
Computers and improved communication.
Better cars.
Con:
Educational standards low.
Increasing dependnce on the government for support.
General abdication of responsibility.
Overpopulation.
Lousy diet.
Summing up: Boy, I'd like to see a combination of the good points from both decades!

More freedoms now than in the 50s, but we are slowly losing them. Neither decade is better, just different.

Racial tolerance is the good thing about today. Being black I would not want to go to the 50's.
