Try to keep the class as interactive as you can. Kids at that age still learn better by learning through doing. And try to make them understand that their opinions always count, this will make them feel important and probably incite them to participate actively in class

You lost me at Catechism in public school. I have never heard that being done anywhere but private school.

Math is boring to most children. It is simple and repetitive and boring. If you want to spice things up then start each class with a pop quiz. It will no longer be boring and it may get them to focus more on what you are saying.

English is not as boring, but it is disected into literature, spelling, punctuation, and grammar, and that; makes it confusing. It is like teaching algebra without solving anything. You should really be teaching them logic as well. Time is the problem, however; how to teach it all in so short of time. Reading goes first, writing goes second, and if you have spelling then you guessed it, pop quiz.

As for catechism you are on your own. That is a subject that they may or may not listen to. You can only hope to enlighten them, not educate them, that they must do for themselves.

Avoid in depth arguments. Focus on your time. Keep things moving.

Fifth grade is also the beginning of puberty so watch out for that. No group study. Class study or individual study is better.

Yes you are teaching the grade 5 students. What work you have on you!
Anyway I would suggest that you use practical teaching aids. These are aclled instructional aids. You need to realise that the cultural teaching strategies that was introduced by our parents are done away with. In that students no loner learn by just listening to a teacher. Instead the teacher will have to structure his/her lesson to captivate the students learning. I sugeest that you use technology to introduce your lessons so that your students can be stimulated to learn. You can compose your content in the form of a song using the rythm of their favorite song.

Prepare charts that will draw their attention.
Just remember that students will learn from a lesson that is student center. That is you must always involve your students in the lesson rather than making it be teacher center.

WHAT?! humorous yet my chum became raised atheist and wager what? he's an atheist!!! For a team that asserts psychological superiority, i basically can no longer have confidence countless the flaws that come out in this communicate board. See i'm able to assert that atheists close off an fairly considered necessary factor of human existance that should be similar to locking toddlers in a closet......basically such as you could say that religious lie to toddlers. so a strategies as "organic skepticism" is going......it shows which you do not have toddlers. toddlers are patently trusting and have confidence what they are informed. it is in basic terms after coping with people that mistrust and skepticism roots in. finally...i ought to handle this over back....."this is executed with some basic truths like how all religions declare that in the time of basic terms their ideals are authentic and all the others are fake yet there is the comparable diverse loss of knowledge for all religious ideals" whats up isn't this precisely what you are trying to do? to declare you are the only perception this is authentic (no god) and all others are fake (religious are manipulative and lie to) with out any data (you could't tutor non-existance like i'm no longer able to tutor existance)?

try relating it to things their accustomed to/ can relate to.

like for example, a tv show, or the new fad.
(e.g. Pokemon cards have basic addtn and subtraction in them).

for english, try to get some activities that will help them learn while they're having fun.

for catechism, try the parables, or videos, or praise songs that relate to your subject matter.

But there's plenty more out there you can do. just think.

Children this age have a very short attention span. Try getting a book of jokes appropriate jokes for that age, humor will help you keep their attention.

If you really are teaching english, perhaps a lesson in spelling would get "there" attention.!

Put it in terms they know. Use funny stories and scenarios.

Children respond better to positive reinforcement than punishment or put downs.
