First of all look it up on Wikipedia I think. There may be courses at your local college in Technical Drawing and Design. Some common packages are AutoCAD, Pro Engineer, Solid Works, Cadds 5 and Catia.

Good luck, i hope you enjoy it and would advise you take a Technical Drawing course first (unless you already have!).

If you are interested in this kind of thing and looking at career options then you might find Engineering interesting too. CAD is covered in Engineering degrees.

I'm a designer that uses CAD every day. I practically taught myself, the help topics built into the program are extremely useful that will be enough to get you started. It is very expensive to buy though. I have AutoCAD and a Solidworks licence too. I love it, it's great fun.
