If you want a definition of a mammal, it's an animal that breast-feeds its youngs. Many non-mammals don't lay eggs (boa constrictor, for example), and a few mamals do (platypus).

So birds are not mammals. But birds are warm-blooded like mammals.

mammals are those animals which give birth to like ones and not eggs, you see like a snake lays eggs, so it is not a mammal, but humans give birth or reproduce like ones so the humans are mammals, the same way whale, penguin give birth to like ones and are mammals, the smallest mammal is shrip. while the largest mammal is whale

Mammals have main significant character is presence of mammary gland......... but still few mammals doesnt have mammary glands......

for example though bat is ability to fly and dont have mammary glands but still bat is the only flying mammal.

mammals never lay eggs...... but still duck billed platypus from australia is egg laying mammals.

penguins are look like a birds but they spend their most of time in water to search of food...... still they are birds

but penguins are warm blooded animals but they are birds. becoz they lay eggs and they have feathers.

Trick question, my friend. While both have spinal columns and are warm blooded:

Mammals have mammary glands and give birth to live young, they also usually have hair somewhere on their body.

Birds have feathers, wings, hollow bones, and lay eggs.

Which category do you think penguins fall into?

PS (after reading other answers, some of them are DEAD wrong)

It is a bird and is warm blooded i.e. it is homoieothermic - maintains its temperature irregardless of the environmental temperature. For a good website, try www.antarticconnection.com.
