Sure it's a good idea to save. I live on 80% of my income. I save 10% and I give 10% away. After nearly 3 decades in the workforce, I have found that having something set aside is very beneficial. I had cancer in 2004 and if I had not had a tidy amount saved, even with my insurance, I would not have been able to get all of the treatments that saved my life (just an example). It also helps you develop financial discipline, which is VERY important in todays economy.

It's the difference between want and need. Some people tend to not spend their money unless they really need something. They want to have as much money in the bank for their retirement or for an emergency, like buying a new refrigerator for example. The more responsibilities (like children or owning your home) you have, the more you need to save. Others live payday to payday because they buy things they don't need usually. Granted there are those that only make enough to buy what they need with nothing left over. Consider yourself lucky.

The saying goes, "Save penny for a rainy day". You have to save something because you don't know when you're gonna need the money. What if nobody's there to help you, to lend you out for something in case of emergency?

It is a personal choice whether to spend money or save it. Some are afraid to be without money. Others can't wait to spend their money.

Well, be alone and friendless. Get an accident by dashing with a car. Keep no mney on the bank account. And nobody pays your hospital expenses, and you don't have any money saved. You die, thinking "why didn't I save my money when I could have?"

I think, your approach is right. Money should be saved in order to spend. Its illogical to save money if you do not wish to spend it in future.

No saving is madness, spend it, give it and circulate it, but never hold on, keep it tight or lend it. Rainy days comes when called by your fear of going without. When you give to others (charity, homeless, unemployed bummers, greedy friends, begging alcoholics, starving people etc etc), you truly give to yourself and it will come back to you.
