Very simply defined:

Love - a complex set of emotions, feelings, and attitudes towards someone or something that results in a positive, irrational relationship.

Hatred - same, but negative.

Affection - Acts of love, or expression of positive feelings through touch or words.

Sadness - Generally any emotion that is negative in a generally disabling way.
