i love his writing. naked lunch was amazing. i've also read the soft machine, junky, and queer. his style is unlike anything else out there, which is why i think so many people hate it. they dont understand. people pass him off as just being a heroin addict. his writing is actually really deep, and if you read through his book a couple of times you may be able to catch some of the things going on there.

Edgar Rice Burroughs was the author of the Tarzan books.

As far as WSB goes, start with Naked Lunch and go on - The Ticket that Exploded, The Soft Machine, etc. - lots of great stuff. It might not make sense in a conventional way. He (along with Byron Gysin) was a pioneer of the cut- up technique, where you write sentences and cut them up and reassemble them.

WSB was also an unforgettable reader of his own stuff - check out Dead City Radio for an introduction to his work and his voice. More info: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001FYF/sr=1-1/qid=1154367335/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6659627-0296945?ie=UTF8&s=music.

Burroughs was a long time heroine addict and his writing comes in and out of coherence just like him.

I really suggest his biography, Literary Outlaw. He is the real story. His life far outweighs his writing. Killed his wife playing Wm Tell, tried growing pot in Mexico and then when he got it to the states he found out he did not cure it right. He is full of interesting anecdotes and tragedy.

Then read his books, they make more sense.

If you're referring to the Tarzan series, I read one when I was a kid, but don't remember much about his writing style.

However, as I started to gain some education, I realized that his idea of a human being reared by apes, yet having a human mentality, is patently ridiculous. So, I haven't been tempted to reread the book or seek any of his other writings.
