NO NO NO .... they should be banned, they are having a serious effect on the enviroment.

Those that say they dont like the taste of tap water ... THEN GET A JUG FILTER , put it in the fridge, then a bottle..... simple as that.

BAN BOTTLED WATER NOW!!!

Bottled water has far more impurities than tap water , its been proven, many people are allergic to tap water because of the manufacturing process.

I don't really understand what your problem is,you should have been more specific. You mean plastic bottled water in contrast to glass bottled water or in contrast to tap water? If the contrast is the first(plastic opposed to glass),then plastic bottled water is necessary when going on a trip or doing sports activities,as glass bottled water would be too heavy to carry. If you were thinking about bottled water as opposed to tap water, then that is REALLY necessary, especially in some poluted areas where tap water is not very pure.Anyway, usually any tap water carries parasites that could develop in your intestines if you drink the water, especially that such parasites do not die through boiling.(beware that many people have them and don't even know about it;they are contagious if using the same toilet or towels and you WOULDN'T want to have them growing inside you!) In addition, bottled water contains more minerals than tap water, and minerals are vital for us.In tropical areas, tap water should be avoided even when brushing one's teeth or when washing fruit and vegetables,as it may contain dangerous viruses such as malaria. Therefore, you will use bottled water there any time you need to use water. In conclusion, without bottled water we would be at risc for all kinds of disease. If your problem is with plastic,it is way more practical for the consumer and cheaper for the producer.Hence, plastic bottled water has many more advantages than you might have think of.So ,YES,IT IS NECESSARY.

GREAT QUESTION.

Plastic bottled water causes more pollution that glass bottled water or drinking out of the tap.

People should use a filter for their tap water if the taste is objectionable, but buying plastic bottled water gives a false sense of "living healthy." You're just part of the consumerist problem.

Not really. Maybe the need to improve the quality of tap water. Saying that, a friend of mine was telling me about how someone he knows is almost permanently ill because her immune system didn't develop when she was younger because her mum wouldn't let her come into contact with any germs! So it wouldn't really hurt us that much to drink the tap water. Well, we all do in my family. We haven't got the money to keep buying bottled water which actually tastes the same, sometimes worse, than tap water.

No, but it sure is convenient! I drink more water now than I ever have. So yes, it's just another way to get people to spend money, but if it's slightly improving my health, simply by virtue of the fact that it's convenient and I'm more likely to grab a bottled water and drink it, then I think it's worth it. I reuse my bottles and put plain tap water in them when they're empty. Just make sure to recycle!

Plastic bottled water is handy to carry around, so it makes it ideal for jogging, picnics, long walks or just to take it with you on a very hot summer day. I guess it's not necessary, but it is really handy.

I believe its not necessary to have plastic bottles for water, ...glass would be the most feasible way of drinking fresh water without creating pollution for future generation to worry about. glass bottles used and returned for refill, keeps our environment cleaner.

No, it isn't. Considering we have a drought and a general water shotage and water looks like becoming as precious as oil in the futue, i think we should take all the bottled water from every shelf in every supermarket and pour it into the nearest reservoir. Then we can all share it and replace back to nature a life giving and precious resource.

No it's not necessary, but the water contained within doesn't have all the chemicals in it that the water companies put into tap water.
