Why is it that if you pay a small sum, you can access peoples' names, addresses etc from companies such as 192.com etc.. What about data protection and what happens if you do not want your address to be known to the general population? How do you stop people accessing your address? For instance, say you were being stalked by a violent ex partner and you did not want him to find you after you had moved to another address?

I'm not trying to hide because of anything I have done, but my daughter is trying hard to escape a violent ex partner who we fear will find her easily because of this awful system of publishing peoples details to anyone who wants them. There does not seem to be anything we can do.

I have Exactly the same problem and I am going to court about it. I found out you have to go to court to get it taken off. The only people who will use this info online are criminals, stalkers, robbers, id theft, it's all there for them. I am writing my legislators. I have already written 2 state senators and governor. I found out they post your address if you buy a house. I had it covered previously with PO box, unlisted number and I only use an id online not my name. Please be careful. I have been looking into all of this and am almost finding I will need to sell my house and moved again. But if a number of us petition about it, we could get it changed. Public listings help no one but criminals.

I got a warning whilst parking in Tesco car park a few months ago, for exceeding the 2 hours free parking. They WROTE to me at HOME ....how did they know my addresss? I was horrified not because I had anything to hide but just how easily they got my details. Apparently DVLA SWANSEA sell your details to car parking companies and if you don't believe me try it....you get a warning on the first offence so don't worry you won't have to pay...I'm only talking about Tesco car parks.

The likes of 192.com only use the public version of the voters roll so you can opt out.

The biggest problem in the UK is DVLA. They will release information to anyone that claims good reason. If your doing a runner - change your car !

Request entities where the data of your daughter be removed. Write formal letters to the companies so that your request will be acted upon and keep records of said letters.

there is alot of help nowadays for people who have suffered by domestic violence, if she gets in touch with victim support they will be able to help her, she can have alarms fitted to her new house incase he does find her and if she applies for an injunction he will be arrested straight away, i don't know full details but victim suport are the best people to ask.
