Your hamster proberly didn't like the smell of soap on your hands. & the russian hamster is soooo tiny & cute so maybe you have that breed of hamster? If you are really concerned then take the litter critter to the vets!!!

What kind of hamster do you have? Is it a dwarf hamster or a Syrian (aka teddy bear) hamster? That would affect size. I have also found that my males tend to be smaller than females. If your hamster is a baby, that's probably why you're still getting bit. The younger the hamster, the more prone they are to biting out of fear. You'll need to slowly get your hamster used to you. Put your hand in the cage (without trying to pick it up) and let it get used to you. It will take time, but it's worth it. As far as letting it run around the room, I really wouldn't recommend it. Use a hamster ball if you'd like to let it roam a bit.

Is it a dwarf hamster? They are very common and stay small. Dwarf hamsters also tend to bite more.

Doing some research I found that hamsters are creatures of habit and can get stressed very easily. Changing where you keep your hamster could be agitating it.

We put our hamster in those little balls and he can run all over the house and you don't have to worry about losing him. Or they also have special cages that are open, but they are about $30.

Good luck!

You may have a dwarf hamster (they are usually either gray with white tummies or all white with pink eyes), which would explain his tiny size.

As far as the biting, first off please realize that hamsters are one of the pets that is most likely to bite. They do so very commonly and, yes, it hurts like you know what! You can try avoiding perfumes and talking to your pet, when you go to pick him up, but hamsters are naturally biters, so don't be overly alarmed by it.

You may have a type of hamster that doesn't grow to be big like the other's. Anyway did you hamster ever get to a point where it stopped biting you for you to be so alarmed? Try turning on the light everytime you want o touch your hamster. They have eyes too ya know.

If its a girl it might be pregnant, but i doubt that because u said it wasnt growing. Ok dont leave it in the dark no more but dont leave it in a hot room because it can dehidrate and die. Keep trying to play with it, if its still a baby then dont hold it to much because when it grows up it will be really mean. Try feeding it some nuts and veggies and maybe buy some different hampster food. Hope i helped!

maybe your hamster is a dwarf hamster. it won't grow big.

do not disturb your hamsters when they are sleeping. they will get angry (anyone will get angry if you wake them up in the middle of sweet dream). do not approach hamsters too aggrasively. they will feel threatened.

if you wish to let your hamsters to run around the room (but scare to lose them), you can but a running ball. it is a transparent ball-like thing. you can put your hamster in it and it will roll around and explore the room. as long as you make sure the little 'door' of the running ball not loosen, your hamster can go wherever he likes. you won't lose your hamster in this way, unless you lose the ball as well.

hamsters can be very independent. any large craeture bugger than it will probably be bit. ive had many hamsters and most of them ave done that. u probably have a dwarf hamster and they are very small. if u want to let it in ur room, put it in box. that will act as a barrier. u shouldnt take it out if its so small. talk to it for a while until it knows its name well. pet it on the back with one finger very gently. put something small of urs in its cage for it will know ur smell. slowly prpgress to pcking it up.
