Actually, if you give them a lot of good things to chew on (check out the small pet aisle of your local pet store), you shouldn't ever need to. I've had more than a dozen hamsters and haven't once had to clip any teeth.

In theory, a Hamsters teeth should never need cutting.
In extreme old age, they may have poor eating habits, and dental growth, so do not wear down the teeth sufficiently. The Vet. will then cut them for you.

You dont!! Make sure to provide lots of chewing toy and your hamster will keep its teeth down to the proper length all by himself!!
The only time they need thier teeth cut is if they have not been provided with natural chews and thier teeth have become overgrown.

teeth could be filed down yet never cut back! we are speaking approximately bone right here, no longer cuticle like fingernails are made up of! I even have in basic terms heard of this being executed for horses. It takes an authority with the aid of fact whether it is not executed top it ought to reason the animal extra discomfort or maybe save it from eating. If it is executed on small rodents additionally this is information to me, yet i'm able to enable you be responsive to a minimum of one situation. to objective something like that in the time of your man or woman w/o understanding what you're doing is fool hardy. How do you plan to hold him nonetheless and get his mouth open? whilst vets do dental artwork the animal is often sedated. i'm no longer able to enable you be responsive to what it costs, never having executed this sorry -- besides the undeniable fact that I do have one advice. have you ever tried identifying to purchase those flavored wood toys for hamsters they sell interior the puppy shops? in keeping with possibility in case you test with some distinctive flavors and varieties of chew toys you will locate one he likes and this subject will pass away. good luck!

I've kept guinea pigs and rats for years and never had to worry about over growing teeth. If it happens to your hamster, take him to the vet, this is not something you should attempt.
While wood and dog biscuits are good for wearing the teeth down I've just recently discovered Cow Hoofs. They're hard enough to do the job and my rats love them. They're also good for dogs to chew on, I had them for my hubby's dogs and decided to toss one to the rats and they loved them. Both the dogs and the rats prefer the lighter colored ones, but will chew on the darker ones if nothing else is around. You can get them at pet stores and feed stores some times carry them.

I've never heard of cutting teeth if you aren't an animal dentist you dont know the proper length anyhow. Just give them things to chew they naturally take care of their own teeth. Wooden chew sticks their plastic houses any thing will do. Good luck with your new pet.

There isn't any reason to cut hamster teeth, just put pieces of wood in their cage so they have something to chew on, OK...
Good Luck..

you should always provide your hamster a hard block of wood for gnawing or a dog biscuit to ensure that the hamster's teeth do not become over grown.
