Phlebotomists usually work in a hospital drawing blood for the patients. They work under the supervision of nurses and lab technicians. Some phlebotomists work in independant labs, where doctors send their patients to get blood drawn. Sometimes, they can work in blood banks, with additional on the job training.
It's a decent job with regular hours, the pay can vary from $8.00 to $12.00 an hour depending on where you live and how much experience you have. You will spend lots of time on your feet. Sometimes a phlebotomist will have to perform simple blood tests, depending on where you work.
If you are looking at phlebotomy as a career, you might consider training to be a certified medical assistant instead. The pay can be a bit higher, and since you are trained to help run a medical office, too, there are lots more jobs available.
I know of a doctor who started off as a phlebotomist, and used that job to pay her way through medical school.
It's a good entry level job in the medical field.
Hope this helps!
