Everything in moderation is just a self-deluding form of extremism, extreme mediocrity. Plus, without deviation from the fulcrum-- there is NO WAY to understand the scope of the so-called polar opposites. But that whole Aristotelian/Platonic schema isn't right. Life isn't a set of lines or line segments.
Polygons and circuits, fissures and fractures in the web of belief-- we are much more complicated than these made-up binaries. Layers of the "opposite" exist under, through, and already as the available intuition. Good in one context, bad in another-- both contexts overlapping.
If anything, "everything in moderation" helps us to see how wrong this picture is.

I think that this good for most things. Moderate amounts of exercise, food, drink, etc is always advisable.
However for every rule there are exceptions. You should love some one moderately. You should love them unconditionally. You should not think something through partly. You need to think it through completely.
I guess this falls under the "for every rule there are exceptions" rule.

not all things are to be kept at moderation. for instance, in pursue of ideas, if you keep working or searching with moderation, you will not reach any major idea... unless by chance :)
