all numbers are fractions....whole numbers are over a 1, i.e., 3/8 x 6, is 3/8 x 6/1, for a mixed fraction like. 2 and 3/8 times 6, you multiply the whole number by the denominator, add the numerator to the product and put that number over the original denominator. i.e., 2 and 3/8.....is 2 times 8, which equals 16 plus the numerator of 3, so 3 +16 = 19, so you take the 19 and put it over the 8 and it becomes 19/8 times 6/1, then you multiply the top number by the top number and bottom by the bottom and you've got your answer, 19 times 6 = 114 and 8 times 1 = 8, so the answer is 114 over 8, reduced it's 57 over 4, then devide the 4 into the 57 and put the dividend as the whole number and the remainder as the new numerator over the deniminator of 4. like this 57/4= 14 with 1 left over, so the mixed number answer is 14 and 1/4, but most teachers do not like mixed fractions so you might as well leave it at 57/4.

ALL numbers are not fractions. There is a whole range of numbers called "irrational numbers" that can't be written as a fraction. Integers on the other hand can.

3/8 * 6 basically mean three eighths of something into six.

Think of it this way. You have 3 slices of a pizza cut into eight. And you have 6 such boxes. How many whole pizzas do you have. (Remember one pizza is 8 / 8)

Basically you will then have 18 pieces of 1/8th of a pizza, which works out to two such pizzas (8/8 + 8/8) and two small slices left over.

Therefore the answer is 2 and two one eights which is equal to 2 and a quarter pizzas

2 1/4 (some ppl write this as 9/4... god knows why)

You make the whole number into a fraction
Multiply the fractions

3/8 x 6/1 = 18/8

Reduce

9/4 = 2 1/4

3/8 x 6 = 3/4 x 3 (because u divide 8 by 2 and six by 2)
= 9/4 (because u multiply 3 by 3)
= 2whole 1/4 (because 4x4 is 8 and 9-8 is 1. remainder of 1 to be divided by 4)
=(or) 2.25 (because if u use a calculator, 9divided by 4 is 2.25.)

hope u understand all this...

you take 3/8 x 6/1 which is 9/4 which is 2 and 1 quarters... it's really simple... you just have to practise more and very soon you'll be an expert at fractions! (:

Easy change the fraction to decimal then go for it!

.375 X 6.00= 2.250 (2 1/4) or $2.25 or whatever

Still won't buy a gallon of gas!
