i've tried :

"Power Down Your System Completely (Not Hibernating Or Sleep Or Suspended, Power OFF)

Attach The USB Device To The System

Power Up".

it freezes at windows boot.

although i think it's in the bios, i'm afraid to look at it again. the last time i've done it, it stopped windows from booting up. i can't even get inside the bios again. it can't detect the HDD, cd-roms and drive A.

i need the pc to be working cause i've got a lot of stuff to finish. maybe when i'm not busy.

Try This:

Power Down Your System Completely (Not Hibernating Or Sleep Or Suspended, Power OFF)

Attach The USB Device To The System

Power Up

If The System Is Hanging During Power Up See If Theres An Update To Your Systems BIOS.

Outside Of That The System Builder (Dell, HP, etc.) and OS (Windows me, XP Home/Pro, 2K, Mac, etc.) Would Be Helpful

Windows XP is 'Plug & Play', all other operating systems require you to instal device drivers so you can couple cameras etc. Maybe freezing cos it can't recognise what you're plugging in. Your printer will have had the software installed for it.
