as pre as defination diuretics are the substances, which enhances the output of urine by increasing the excretion of water & salt through urine
they are used generally for treatment of hypertension , edema & congestive cardiac failure. they prevent this by increasing urinary output & redusing blood volume.
however now a days people misuse the diuretis agents in order to reduse the weight & keep the body slim. but the prolonged use of diuretics may lead to the complications like "diuretic dependant

Yes, the specific purpose of diuretics is to relieve your body of excess body fluid. You'll lose pounds while taking it, but it's all water leaving your body. If you're bloated, then this is a good thing. But taking diuretics when they're not needed can take a bad toll on a lot of things, including your digestion; you're body needs water. Unless you are actually retaining excess body water, I don't advise taking diuretics.

A diuretic will make you pee a lot. It will cause dehydration. I've been on spironolactone, a diuretic for half a year now. Perscriptions come with pamphlets stating their side effect too if you need to know more about what you're taking.
