The downstairs bathroom just started doing this tonight. It is below the laundry room. It's a brand new toilet in a new house and it's been fine until tonight. Not sure if it's related, but we ran a load of laundry earlier, but we've done that, obviously, many times.

Water Hammer- make the seller pay to fix it if this is a new home.

Check if the outlet sewage pipe has an air vent or if its blocked. Providing an air vent will eliminate water hammer as the flush operates

The incoming water pressure is moving the old pipes, it's no big deal, until something breaks, then you have water leaks below the house, or in the basement.

the water hammers the pipe as it flows down stairs,,,find the point where the noise occurs, inspect and re-brace it.

open the top of it and see if anything got moved some how and is banging against the side
