In the past, in order to illustrate American’s economic powerful, it used to say “When US sneezes, the rest of the world has got pneumonia”

Now it uses to say “When US sneezes, the rest of the world has a vaccination and the vaccine is provided by China”.

How do you feel about that ?

I think that is true and makes perfect sense.

This is not totally right! Even China is growing very fast, it could not compensate a weakness of the US economy on all matters, as it is a different economy. China is considered as the factory of the world and the USA is the consumer of the world. This means, it would hit China most if the US demand struggles.

Your sentence is ignoring the other huge economies around like Europe (same size as the US), India and Russia. The fact is that the importance of the US economy is gone down by far.. but the importance of China is very much overestimated.

So I would say;

If the US economy has a pneumonia, the world sneezes!
If the world has pneumonia, the USA will be lucky if it only starts sneezing!!

It should be when the US sneezes the rest of the world has a vaccination and the vaccine is provided by the EU. China isn't a large enough economic power to make the original statement true but the European Union is.
