Why is it that women are more likely to forgive an affair than men?

It's not quite that straight forward.
Women attach emotions to sex with their partners, these emotions get stronger with time and increased satisfaction. As long as these emotions exist they'll ovrride any rational decisions. But once they're gone, I repeat, once they're gone, there is NOTHING you can do to get her back, nothing ever. It's gone and she won't look back. And depending on the circumstance, she'll either phase you out of her memory or hate you. If you were really good, she might remember, or even miss you.
Men on the other hand, have no emotional attachment to sex, they could hate a girl and still sleep with her, something a woman can rarely do.
But wether one person forgives another depends on a lot of things. It depends on their options, wether they still have something to gain etc
Women might be more forgiving, when they still like you enough, cos:
1: they don't wanna lose to another woman.
2. They wanna set you up and dump YOU later.
Or you might just be filthy rich and they'll stick with you for that.
Plus it gives them power and control over you, which is nice, isn't it.
Men will forever crawl back especially if he can't do better, just for the sex.
I think men are more forgiving, I've seen men who have been cheated on many times by a woman who's worthless and still forgiven her. Even when they break up they still wanna be friends. I've seen women who won't even look at you again, if you did something like that.
But maybe it isn't so black and white, maybe it all boils down to low self esteem and and insecurities, which women have in abundance.

Women are conditioned to take responsibility for everyone else's well-being. It is much easier for a man to make it on his own if he decided to leave a cheating spouse. A woman still earns less than a man doing the same job and would be expected to have primary or at least joint custody care of any children involved. Also, society looks down on a divorced woman as she "could not make her marriage work" whereas a man is hardly ever blamed even if he is the one who has the affair. It's still somehow the wife's fault as she "should" forgive him. There are too many double-standards between the genders.

men are hunters and woman gatherers. This renders men to be emotionally stunted and unable to forgive mishap.Believing that will simply hunt again. Woman onthe other hand are prepared to try and mould a man change his ways his views etc etc

Men do not forgive, but they have short term memory. They tend to forget.

Women are practical creatures and at the same time they are emotional and can endure pain. They forgive, but they NEVER forget.

Because as women we are silly enough to:
1) blame ourselves
2) blame the other woman
3) feel like we will never find anyone else and be alone for the rest of our lives.
I know it sounds silly and stupid, but it's the truth.

Women are taught to nurture and see the good in all people and be loving, and to accept flaws and look past them.

Personally if my husband ever cheated on me, he would be gone faster then he could even say he was sorry. I know my worth, and I deserve much better then that.

It conflicts with my wedding vows I know, for better or worse til' death do we part, maybe I would just kill him. LOL.

I think it's because they're afraid that's the best they can do. No one (man or woman) should settled for a person who's cheated on them. Trust will forever be an issue and will hinder the relationship anyway.

My husband told me that he couldn't handle it. He said that is one area where we woman are definately stronger. Forgiving is always the easy part, forgetting is the problem.

Its natural my dear, remember women are mothers and their hearts are motherly and soft, and men's hearts are as hard as their penises become when they want to hummer. its a way of life, learn to live with it.
