I think many people feel sad because they have lost touch with the little things in life that give so much pleasure. I know it sounds trite, but an appreciation of the pleasant things around us can bring a great deal of satisfaction and a sense of well being.

I used to feel a lot like you do. I finally forced myself to notice the things I took for granted. Now I enjoy getting up very early in the morning and having my coffee outside while the first light of day spreads across the sky. It is different every day, and I relish the feeling that most of the rest of my town is sound asleep and I am the only one witnessing this.

I like the long light of early evening when the breeze dies out and everything becomes still. I think the Spanish have the right idea with their afternoon siestas. It provides a great time for reflection and appreciation.

I have come to look for the good that I can find in people and ignoring the negative and bad. At the same time, I have come to terms with my own transgressions in life and do not dwell on them.

I have developed the confidence to know that I can do almost anything I set my mind to do and that has brought me contentment and confidence.

I view life a a lifelong learning journey, and I read and study every day. When I travel, I come back home and read the history of the area I have visited.

I guess my advice to you would be to find a way to appreciate the things and people around you and you will soon find peace of mind.

Good luck in your journey through life.

how sad? Make a list of all the things you'd like to do in your life. For instance if you would like to play tennis and never have done that before, then sign up for a tennis class.
Find out what other people are doing and enjoying (like dining out, playing golf, going dancing) and you try it too. When you run out of things to do then go to the search engine and look up everything that comes to mind.

It’s all in the head. If you think you are happy then you are. There’s nothing I can do to help. Sadness isn’t real; it is the lack of happiness. Be happy and the sad will go away.
