When I was a personal fitness trainer, I made my clients work out in a long sleeve sweatshirt...it's very difficult to see any gains in the first few weeks. Your body is dropping water weight and building cells that are geared for density.

After three months, I would let them wear whatever they wanted through workouts so they could see their muscular development in the mirrors.

It might work for you as well.

I started working out a few years ago. I was about 25 pounds overweight and sick and tired of being sick and tired. I started out with a bang and didn't stop. Every day I dragged myself to the gym for hours. I'd go the next day too, even when I was so sore I felt like I was eighty. I went on this great diet and was working out 5 days a week, so I was expecting some results ASAP.

At first I dropped a good 10 pounds or so...it may not have been that much, it's been a while....but it was a decent amount. But then I got to this standstill...it was about a month after I started. It was sooo aggravating! B/c I was sticking to my diet and working out like crazy and wasn't seeing any results. This went on for a couple of weeks. I was so frustrated...I went asking everyone...'what am I doing wrong?'

Then one day, I woke up and had dropped about 8 pounds and a full dress size. Weird huh? But after that day, when I did start seeing those results, it was a snowball effect, b/c it didn't stop. Also, whenever I was in really good shape, it was hard for me to see the difference on my own. Try getting someone to take some snapshots of you now and then another one in a week...showing as much skin as possible. It's a lot easier to see your results that way.

In 5 weeks you normally should be able to see some results. If you are in decent shape and start going to the gym to lift weights 3x a week and you run 4x a week, then in 5 weeks you should start to see results. Keep on a schedule like this while eating right and you will see results.

Your weight lifting should be for at least an hour, your running should be for at least 45 minutes. Your eating should be good foods, not many sweets, not too much fat, and focusing on proteins because of the added work you are giving your muscles.

Keep it up, you will see results.

PS- stay away from scales. They will not tell you your fitness level.

you may have hit a plateau which happens in weight loss - to get past it you really need to change something - like do different types of cardio - walk then run, then jump on bike, jump rope, do aerobics - life some weights for toning and strengthening. Whatever your body is used to - you have to do something else to "suprise it" - change it up - and also make sure you are eating 5-6 small meals a day with protein, fruits and veggies - to increase your metabolism. Also the light weight lifting (2-3 times per week 8-10 reps of 5-6 exercises ie bicep curls, push ups, tricep lift, chest flies, lunges with weights. etc) increases metabolism. If your body isn't responding, do something different for a few weeks and eat a bit differently. Maybe you are not eating enough. And remember muscle weighs more than fat so if you are not seeing the #s drop, start taking measurements instead - could be u are losing inches and not pounds. throw in an aerobic tape or dancing or something - switch it up and have fun. just focus on getting in shape and feeling good - the rest will come. good luck =)

You said "I" have seen little results. You cant tell it as much as other people can. The reason why is because you see yourself every single day. Other people that see you periodically can tell more about your progress. If you don't think your getting the gains that you want to see do more. Do a heavy weight. some weight that with only 4 sets of 8 reps you cant handle any longer. That practice is a good way to get over the hump. also you may try shocking your body by doing push ups one week and bench press the next week. mix it up a bit. Hang in there....GOOD LUCK.

The problem may be many things because of the lack of details in the question but first of all 5 weeks is not enough time, i would work out for 5 more weeks and then check back. You may also be to skinny right now, if that's the case try bulking up with shakes like mega mass 3000, i take it and it works great.

5 weeks isn't enough time. I've been working out for 7 months and lost 48 pounds. You need to do this type of stuff for a while to see results...or at least actually be able to notice them.

If you mean you have not lost weight then I can say that building up some muscle actualy replaces the fat with muscle and hence you will put a little more weight on.
If you mean that you cannot notice any changes in your body..did you measure your calves, and upper arms and waist line prior to starting your regime? If not..do it now and then look at the difference upon measuring yourself in a few weeks time. I bet you will be surprised :)

Maybe a plateau? Also, muscle weighs more than fat for the same space taken up...so if you are concerned with the scale...it's a horrible indicator of progress where working out is concerned.

Are you increasing the amounts of weight you use?

Are you giving yourself enough time between workouts (at LEAST a day, more likely two days between muscle building exercise days)?
