I do not suggest a piercing at a boutique. Sterilization techniques are lacking (you cannot effectively sterilize a gun, which is what boutiques like Claire's use), and the people working there treat a piercing as "a job to get done and overwith" as opposed to "an artform to be perfected" as professional piercers treat it.
The pricing may be a little more expensive at a local body piercing parlor, but you are far less likely to get an infection, and you can be sure the artist is well trained in piercing, whereas at a boutique, they essentially take a crash course in piercing, and do not keep up with piercing standards (such as still using alcohol-based cleansers as a recommended means of cleaning a new piercing, instead of anti-bacterial/anti-microbial soap, or actually using germ-laden guns instead of one-use or autoclave-sterilized needles).

My daughter has had her ears pierced 3 different times at Claire's, so she has 3 holes in each ear. Plan to spend about $40 each time. The actual piercing is free, however you pay for the earrings (the ones they use for piercing are high quality and cost about 29.99), plus tax. They will also sell you a bottle of antiseptic to put on your ears every day for awhile to keep infections away. So all together, about $40.

Claire's offers the ear piercing for free only when you purchase a pair of their earrings. I believe that you can get a pair of stud earrings for under $10.

They start about $25.00 and go up from there. Includes the ear cleaning stuff as well.
