for pointless legislation, like:
Childproof caps on medicine bottles - they're also little old lady proof - if my mother has a headache I have to drive there and open the bluddy paracetamol for her.
Stabbing holes in supermarket carrier bags which makes them useless as small bin-liners - if it's supposed to stop your kid from suffocating when it plays with a plastic bag, then YOU'RE TOO STUPID TO HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO BREED. (here kiddy, play with this bag while I fetch you some razor blades and turn the hob on for you to sit on).
"Part of Multipack - not to be sold separately" mesaages on everything from coke to fags to crisps" Who the Frack Cares?
(girls - do they do that multipack thing on tampons? would you let your child play with a tampon, or is there a risk of choking?

Your taxes don't pay for childproof caps, holes in carrier bags or Multipack messages. They are paid for by the companies that produce the goods... not the government.

If you walk down a pavement or drive down a road then your taxes pay for it. I've heard American's say that everyone should look after their road and pavement outside their property but what would happen with roads in the UK or USA between towns and cities that have no property around it? I went to Wales the weekend and went miles on roads without seeing any properties, roads which cut through mountains. These roads are needed, and therefore we all have to pay for their upkeep.

What about law enforcement, fire brigade, national security or schools?

I'm not saying all our taxes are used wisely by the government but we do need to pay some tax. The trouble is we take for granted the freedom and protection some of these taxes provide.

Can we decide things, after convincing each individual in a nation. Look at the World Trade Organisation, a consensus even among brilliant experts is so difficult to achieve, just because each has a clout representing the power of his nation, and hence asking more than he is prepared to concede !
The legislators are financed by business houses one way or other, and hence primarily protect the interests of businesses as a priority over individual consumers !
I guess, you have to put up with this order, and use your purchasing power discreetly(separately-together ... ha ha ha), thus effectively deciding 'at the market place' as to who dictates !

you sounds pretty angry about some pretty trivial things. The amount spent on the things you complain about is a tiny fraction of the amount spent to kill and maim Iraqis and to steal their oil for some of the richest companies in the world.

We shouldn't pay taxes because our government does evil things with the tax money, like buying trillions of dollars worth of weapons, so that big companies like haliburton and unocal can make more money after we take over a few more countries.

Its because some stupid **** let their kid die playing spaceman inside a plastic bag and wrote their congressmen. of course congress was only too willing to pass another law,
1. it looks good
2. (more important) it allows people to not think for themselves, takes some responsibility out of their hands and puts it with the government. after a while people get used to relying on the government to do things for them and become unwilling to help themselves. See also; hurricane Katrina, where thousands of stupid people ignored warnings to get out, then chose to rely on the government to help them. they were used to the government taking care of them, and they probably didn't learn from the experience. Moving on... As the general citizenry gets used to relying on the government for their personal well being(see also: public health care, it is a disaster) they begin to neglect basic procedures that keep them healthy and prosperous. they get lazy. Then when people are totally reliant on their government to support them, the government enslaves them. That last bit has not happened yet, but it will if the current trend of over regulating regular people's lives continues.

I know....

Make sure you understand one thing: the republican party has the majority and the majority controls what legislation even gets debated. So we know exactly who to point the finger at for all this waste of our tax payer dollars.

We pay taxes so we can buy our friends (other countries). And of course, wage war in foreign lands. It is expensive to kill people with the newest, most deadly weapons in the world.

We have to pay taxes because we are the citizens of our state. If we won't pay taxes, our country will become into a poor state, like Mexico or Russia. it's our duty to United Kingom.
