Yes many people still use dial ups...lol

They do work, it works by using a server that speeds your connection. Normally your computer would communicate by using your modem to connect to a web server to view a site, but with the Accelerator, you communicate by using your modem to connect to your ISP's accelerator server, then your ISPs server sends and recieves the info you request on a web server at ultra high speeds.
They work very well sometimes, but it all depends on your ISP(internet service provider[AOL, Netzero, etc.]) and how many people are using the accelerator server to transfer and receive information/files.

But it does not compare at all to a Digital Subscriber Line. DSL is Fast, Inexpensive, and Reliable.
Cable is good too but, slower upstream speed, less reliable, and expensive

It's either they save whatever sites you visited and next time you visit them, the ifo is gathered out of your hard disk cache instead of the remote server

OR

They compress the traffic you receive before you receive it so for example instead of receiving a 200 KB image in a website you'll receive a 120 KB image. That's what they claim but I don't believe this speeds your internet connection in any way since most if not all content published on the web is already compressed. (No one misses the chance to save bandwidth)

So they might speed up your web experience a bit, but the technically don't speed up anything

The way it works is all the webpages displayed is in a lower quality, so there is not as much loading. This idea is similar to watching movie trailers videoes online. There are options for lower to higher quality. Higher quality will take longer because there is more data to load. And this will not speed up your downloads of files.

how that works is: it speeds up sites and pages you have already visited but for downloading it wont improve your speed at all. Its a waste.
