Tough one. I will actually vote for a song he didn't write: "All Along The Watchtower". I am not a great fan of Bob Dylan, but he could write a decent tune.....and in the hands of a master - Jimi Hendrix - this song became a masterpiece.
Not only is his guitar playing at its very best in this song, what really strikes me is how fine a singer he was, too. This song puts it all together, and still blows me away every time i listen to it.
Beautiful music can make me cry. This song always does.

For all those that answered All Along the watchtower.
First. The acoustic track on that is NOT played by Jimi. ITs played by Dave Mason of Traffic. (Traffic was a band back then- not the movie)
Second. He DID play the bass after Noel Redding couldnt get it right.
But all those commercial radio songs aside. Id say his best song, The one that tells it all about Jimi is:
Hear my Train A comin or Gettin my heart back together or anything that you want to call it its just a jam again.
OR 1983

Definitely All Along the Watchtower. The guitar solo in that song is really exhilarating and just plain amazing.
I love to roll my window down while driving down the highway and just blast this song...its so refreshing.
Although Voodoo Child is really good as well...and I like Red House too.

The best Hendrix' song ever is his version of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower".
Don't know why, I just like it more than his other songs.
Read more about this song on this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Along_the_Watchtower .

I've always loved "Fire." I don't know if it's the best ever, though.
Why do I love it? The tempo, the drumming. The chromatic bass line is cool. The whole song is cool. Also, the simple blues melody, mixed with chords and other elements that give it a great, sophisticated feel.
