I've heard something similar, but that it had to do with first names rather that family names. But I don't think it is a superstition in current use. I think I heard about some pre-Greek cultures in the Mediterranean area that had that belief. I suppose it is the same as the superstition among some African tribes that if you took a photo of them you had stolen their soul and could use the photo to do them harm sort of voodoo style. Wish I could remember where I heard the name thing though. Sorry.

all of us have a tendency to apply a minimum of one kin call no count if first or midsection. Exception is my sister who have been given Susan Elizabeth by using fact my mom enjoyed it. Our niece (our brother's daughter) is termed Elizabeth, nonetheless. sometimes the two first and midsection are kin names. i think badly for my cousins. Their midsection names are final names from kin on their Dad's edge (no longer the edge i'm on the subject count of): Alison Mcdonald (particular, spelled that way) and Charles Sir Francis Bacon. 2 of my 3 granddaughter's have names that my daughter enjoyed and no kin connection. possibly you should mixture it up and use Manuel for a midsection call. i like Manuel.

actually it was your real birth name that you didnt let anyone know you got a nickname and used that with the general public because if the devil knew your real name he could command you, however its just bull crap. evil is totally human in origin.

Personally I find it useful for distinguishing yourself from someone else with the same first name as you.
