There's a great little book (115 pages) called Zen Art for Meditation, by Stewart W. Holmes and Chimyo Horioka.
This book has 31 paintings, and commentaries on each painting. The commentaries are simple and direct, never sophisticated. The authors of this book realize that the artists use paintings to teach, instead of words. Also, included in the commentaries are zen tenets and haiku poems that relate to the message of the painting.
In the introduction of the book it says;
"Whether you are primarily interested in enjoying great examples of the Chinese and Japanese art of ink painting or in achieving expansion of consciousness, this book open doors."
Personally, this book showed me a new way to look at the art and it's message. Also, I learned how to better understand the message of haiku.
PS- I know your question is regarding sketches, however, the book I'm suggesting will be valuable to you. Also, it doesn't mention technique.
Hope I helped a little. Happy sketching

get a basic book or join a basic drawing class to learn many tips, anyone can learn to draw from a good instructor
but to start:
-make a little cardboard rectangle with thread taped in a grid pattern TO FRAME object/scene you are drawing (this helps do realistically) put a lightly drawn grid on paper to follow
-concentrate on LOOKING at what you are drawing, but do not look at the sketch (will not be realistic but this helps you to really SEE/observe)
-do 5 second, 5 min quick sketches to warm / loosen up
then do an hour long one
-use charcoel, pen , pencil, ink and brush
-dip a long sharpenened stick in ink and try to draw with this, again will not be realistic but teaches control
- also draw with left (right) hand , this helps access the other side of your brain and gives very fluid lines that FEEL

Drawing starts with seeing.
Practice until your hand makes the pencil do what you want it to do.
Your drawings will look the same for a long time. Look at other drawings and explore the things that make them good drawings.
Draw off the page.
Be patient.
