What kind of rookies are you interviewing? Interviews can be very dangerous depending on what kind of company you own/work for. Watch out for questions that can be viewed as discriminatory. Check to see what laws apply, and to find out what you can and cannot ask.
I know a couple of people who own small companies who got nailed with lawsuits for asking a few "illegal" questions during interviews. They seemed harmless, but the law clearly forbids them. Be careful with questions dealing with race, religion, age, medical history, and criminal records. If it can be construed as discrimination you're in trouble.
Here is some info on the legal angle:

You can ask the following (since you say they are rookies):
1. Tell me about your self
2. How did your schooling/College go about?
3. Which subjects you liked during your high school/diploma/Graduation/Post Graduation? and why?
4. Why do you think you are suitable for this job (you have applied)?
5. What are your extra-curricular activities and hobbies?
6. Were you involved in any social service during your college days?
7. Who is your best friend and what you like in him/her most?
8. Where do you want to see yourself in next three years?
9. Suppose, I give a task to you which you dont know how to do, what will you do? - Gauge their inclication to learn new things
10. This job requires you to work beyond normal office hours (If it is really such a type of job, ask). Are you ready for it?
etc. etc.

That question only you should know.
Also I'm a little bit confused. How you can you make job interview without knowing what do you need.
Anyway irregardless of type of job you have, one thing you have to make sure.
That person you are hiring is honest, have level of knowledge that you need (skills) and can start working without too much "job training"

I would ask them what they hope to achieve by working with your company and most importantly why they left their previous employment. Make sure they do not ever slam the "old job". It is a sign of immaturity as well as bad work ethics. Watch how they react when you ask the questions as well as their body language. Good luck! ><>
