I know what you mean, but unfortunately sometimes I am guilty of it! I'm big on character development, I have a slightly unhealthy obsession, haha! Sometimes it's just for fun, and sometimes I guess it's because it helps me get a good picture of who the person is, and figuring out their appearance helps me picture them in my mind. I rarely do the extent of middle names though, just first, last, and vague appearance. I'm one of those OCD people that have to have a balance of surnames in the beginning, middle, and end of the alphabet, and contrasting appearances. Example: My characters would be, just throwing this out here, David Johnson (brown hair), Sarah Abrams (blonde hair), and Tyler Vance (red hair) versus David Scott (brown hair), Sarah Sanders (brown hair), and Tyler Vance (black hair). If that makes sense. The time would be better spent developing the plot, story line, or main characters instead of minor details about minor characters that don't come into play much.
