Here's something I don't understand. Some people complain so much about our country and political leaders, policies, etc. Instead of whining why not just be grateful for the wonderful things we do have or find another country to live in? I've been to many countries and have always returned here knowing we have the best country in the world. If others think it's so bad, why don't they find someplace better so they can be happy?

I agree with many of these comments that people have a right to question and complain about government in an effort to improve things. This is in contrast to Singapore where you have a right to speak out against the government, but you have to obtain a permit to do so and go the Speakers Corner...that's not right.

My original comment has to do with people who seem to have are extremely negative about our country and can't seem to find anything good to say. Maybe it's just political rhetoric?

I am working on it....

Seriously though, people have to question there govt, no? If we just went along with everything this govt did where would that lead us?

I don't automatically trust the govt. They are in power and should be held to the highest possible standard....its a privilege they were put there and they have to have accountability, no?

Just my thoughts, all joking aside, I do love this country and I only want to make it better, differing with govt policies is not un-American, its good to question those in power!

It's not so much that they think it's that bad -- because at some point, it would have to be bad enough to move away, right? But the problem is that it could be better, and especially when people believe that things were better before some change -- whether before a war, a presidency, an economic shift, a domestic policy shift, a foreign policy shift, or a natural disaster that someone thinks the government didn't handle well, just to name a few. People think they know how good this country could be if only so-and-so were out of office, or if a law were passed that allowed this group to do something or prohibited that group from doing something else, and thus protest whenever things are not the way they want it and don't look like they're moving in that direction fast enough.

There's nothing wrong with this, mind you -- the point of a democracy is that the voice of the people is heard, and everyone is able to debate the pros and cons of any decision affecting the country as a whole. The real problem arises when it's all just talk -- when nothing happens as a direct result of the discussion. It's often easier to sit back and moan about the deplorable state of things than to get on one's feet and go do something about it. Once we've identified a problem facing our nation, it's up to each and every citizen to stand up for what's right and take an active role in changing things for the better.

I agree fully. People say they want to change the country into something better and that is why they complain but duh.. if you change it too much it becomes something other than the USA. They are always comparing it to what they had in other countries. GROW UP... THIS IS NOT THE OLD Country.... Accept it and carry on!!!!. What did you come here for in the first place.

I don't go to another country just to change it. I have to accept it for what they want and learn to adapt to its policies. IF you don't like it then MOVE!!!!! There is a huge difference between changing government policies to work for the people and people trying to change the whole country into where they just came from!!!

You hit the nail in the head right there. I lived in communist country. I can understand your point 100%.People that you are talking about are a bunch of idiots having nothing to do.just whining everything. Next time someone bashs about America., you should tell them why they should move to Iraq or Iran and lived there with some crazy nuts like Amoud abanijad. He will bury them alive. He will have his troops shooting a bunch of idiots over here

I agree with you 100%... People like Johnny Depp... He thinks other Countries are better.. but he does not mind all the money he makes here... that seems to be the thing... they like to complain in the only place complaining is allowed.... To bad they don't realize that the right to freedom of speech comes with the responsibility to use that right with care.... :)

Well, then I can complain, because I'm not from us, and I don't plan to live their, so... lol. You now, in live you can just be 'grateful for the wonderful things', etc. Meanwhile you are grateful, people die because of you're country, just so you can have that wonderful things. It's not fair.
