I have a 80 gallon tank that has been sitting for awhile and I was wondering what the best cleaning material i would use to get all the gross build-up off of it. I tryed CLR it won't work. And using a razor blade would take way too long.. its a big tank!!! Any suggestions?

Fill the tank to the brim with warm water then let it stand for about two hours then you can take a sponge with the green scourers on and wash as usual, here and there you might need to use a little elbow greese, but other than that your tank will be sparkling again soon, you might have to use that razor blade here and there for all the stubborn grime, good luck.

I hate to tell you this but if you used CLR on the INSIDE of your tank it is going to take a LONG TIME and LOTS OF WORK to get it to where you can put fish in it and it won't kill them. This is a very volatile chemical that should never be used even around an aquarium. The fumes, if they get into your air pump, will harm your fish. You will need to call the CLR company and see if they will tell you what will get rid of the residue or make it non-toxic.

You should have done you question asking before you put chemicals into your fish tank. It may be unusable.

The only things you should ever use on the inside of your aquariums are salt, vinegar and bleach. Never soap! Salt residue will not hurt fish. Vinegar residue needs to be rinsed quite well. Bleach must be rinsed over and over with lots of De-Chlor added to each rinse.

truthfully, my first advice could be to get a minimum of a 20 gallon tank in case you may take care of to pay for it. a 10 gallon tank is fairly proscribing in terms of what fish you may shop in it, and this is harder to maintain than a greater tank through fact the water high quality can substitute speedier. an mind-blowing form of the fish you notice in puppy shops are too huge to maintain in a 10 gallon tank in case you purchase them interior the counseled numbers for perfect college length. do no longer inquire from me why, yet many puppy shops do no longer carry aquariums greater than fifty 5 gallons, yet they sell fish that ought to require a greater aquarium than that. just about each and every shop i've got considered contains oscars which want a minimum of 75 gallons. besides, in case you have your heart set on a 10 gallon tank, pay interest to catx, particularly her article approximately stocking a 10 gallon tank. She is conscious what she's speaking approximately. principally, do no longer even think of approximately putting goldfish in a tank that small. those "beautiful little goldfish" you notice in shops would be a foot long as adults and want 20 gallons of water in line with fish.

You can use hydrochloric acid (either buy dilute or very carefully dilute it by adding it to water)...wear rubber gloves. I use a cloth to apply it to the glass, then a stainless steel scouring pad....you could use vinegar but it is too weak and would need many applications...be careful around seams not to damage them. Do the cleaning in a well ventilated area...be careful of your eyes too.

just fill it with warm soapy water and a scouring pad. any crap on glass will need shifting with razor blade. make sure you give it a goo swilling out before you put fish in it tho.

get a spunge
a huge bath spunge, and tape it to a broom stick. You can get in the petshops nice gizmos like this allready made from plastic, and it looks a lot more nice than what I've told you.
