The image of the ear to ear grin on my mother's face as she was sitting on the edge of the bath tub holding my 4-yr-old sister's head under the water, strangling her...
She was smiling as though she were proud of what she was doing.
To this day I will never understand what made my mother snap like that. It was around Christmas of 1987, I had just barely turned 8.
I remember hearing all this knocking around-moving furniture like noise & splashing like someone dunking themselves in a pool, bobbing up & down repeatedly, at the same time. I walked down the hall to our open bathroom door & saw my mother sitting side-saddle on the edge of our old, iron, claw-foot tub, holding my 4-yr-old sister under water. I remember asking my mother something, but not what it was, that's when she turned around & I saw that happy-go-lucky-psychotic mask of an expression across her face: the ear to ear grin, like that of "The Joker" from "Batman".
When I realized what was happening, I all of sudden just blurted out, "Mom I think that there's some one at the door." Even though I had heard no one knock. Something about this shocked my mother back into reality. She quickly shook the expression off her face & regained some kind of composure of sanity once again. She got up & wiped her hands on her lap as simply as though she had just finished the dishes & went to check the door.... Lucky for us, some one really was at the door, even though I knew seconds before, there wasn't.
My sister sat up from the water with this wide eyed, deer-in-head-lights look of bewilderment swept over her face. Amazingly, she was fine.
Today she is 23 & a mother herself of a 4-yr-old.
No, she has never tried to drown him in the bathtub LOL.

We all have ours, abuse, sufferings and even deaths.
Not going to share mine with you, they are haunting and make me wanna search for a deeper meaning to life.
On the bright side, yea, my Mother in Law haunts me too.

Yes, I was sexually molested as a child, I would say that accounts for a traumatizing moment.
