Thanks all for your replies, Anyone knows that with 4 young kids it's almost impossible to keep your house spotless, My home is never spotless but it is cleaned (daily) and tidy, My mother in laws (r.i.p.) house was 'the' most spotless house you would ever see but she still got ants.

Believe it or not, Windex kills ants. After killing the visible ants in the house, spray a light mist around the area that they are coming in. You just have to remember to refresh the area after shampooing or washing. It really does work.

Try the little WHITE plastic things. They seem to work for me when the green ones fail. Also, try to follow the ants to the location where they are entering and leaving your home. This is easier said than done, but if you can find their entrance point(s), you've just won the battle.
Simply put a good amount of black pepper at the place where they make their entrance. This should keep them out. I once encircled my entire home with black pepper during an awful ant invasion when my kids were small. It worked, but you will need to reapply the pepper after each rain. If you are able to find the outside nest, destroy it by pouring boiling water over it. Good luck.

a spotless house will not attract ants, they are natures janitors. there is a product called tero that will attract almost the entire colony of ants into your home, they will all gorge themselve on the syrup and take it back to the queen. if you use this you MUST NOT INTERFERE with the ants. don't kill anyof them or disrupt the trail in any way. there are two forms of this one comes in a little bottle that your pour out onto little targets the other is in little bait traps that re self contained, get the self contained version if you can find it.

I totally understand your problem. It is one of the worst things out there! And I do not believe the problem is dirty housing! (we had them coming into the hall but no further into the house than that!)
I am a fan of boiling, soapy water being poured into the nest. If you do not know where it is, stamp your feet and they will come scurrying out! (it is fun for children to jump up and down so it can be a family thing!!!) Oh, and I know some people say it is cruel and heartless but it is much more satisfying than using powder. It is also safer (so long as you do not scald yourself!), especially if you have children and pets who have to be kept away from powders and so on. Powder also kills things like spiders, snails and butterflies.
Good luck with it - and I hope you manage to get rid of them before they start swarming.

Different ants require different treatments. A professional exterminator can identify the type of ants you are dealing with and put in place an effective treatment strategy.
You can spread them to other locations by spraying them indiscriminitely and end up costing you more.
Also, your families safety should be your first concern. Call a professional for help.

Find out where they are coming into the house and spray a little bit of Raid there. Even a drop at their entrance will turn them around.

What worked really good for our home was where they were coming in we sprinkled Cinnamon there, and they stopped coming around. Don't know why it worked, but it was very effective
