I have the same problem only that I am a 34. Cup D is too small and DD is too big. Wearing the right bra cup size it's very important as restraint and squashed breasts can lead to nodules and cyst. Sometimes I go and have fitted bras which can go quite expansive, but what I usually do, I go for push up bras (the ones with removable inside pads), I get a 34D and remove the pads and they usually fit me fine. Depending on the bra cut and shape I get sometimes 34DD and I do the same thing.
I have also noticed that the best type of bra that does fit and support the breasts the best is the balconette bra. To get an idea of how it looks like, please click on the links below. As you may have noticed this type shapes nicely on your breasts but in the same time offers good support and fit all the way around your bust.

Are you sure you're wearing the right band size then? The cup size actually differs slightly with the band size. After I saw that Oprah episode saying that some 80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size I got concerned, lol. I always thought I was a B, but I'm a 32C and when I tried the 34C the cup size seemed just a tad bigger and I asked my fitter about it and she explained that yes the bigger the band size the cup size will be a little bigger as well. I know there are a few websites that sell "nearly" cup sizes just goggle "Nearly DD" I'd imagine they'd have to have it I've seen the "nearly B" "Nearly C" sizes. If all else fails - go to a bra fitter they can point you in the right direction of what size and what brand (some brands are different sizes as well). Good luck to you!

38D is too small.
38DD is too big.
In this case, try a 40D. Increasing the band size should help and it wont be as big a jump as increasing a cup size. I would also try a couple of different manufacturers because a 38D from one company will be different from a 38D from another. Bra sizes are not perfect, so you will need to experiment until you find one that fits.

I have the same problem, D is too small and DD is too big. I have found though that different brands can have different shapes and even sizes, so try on heaps of different brands in each size and I think you'll find a couple that fit just right.
