Usually 9-12 after high school. 4 for undergrad, 2 for masters, 3-6 more for Ph.D. It's still usually 5-6 years if you do the Ph.D. straight through at one school after the BA/BS because you still need to complete most or all of the MA requirements along the way. You don't actually skip it, even though you don't need to buy the paper MA degree!

Rarely 8 (this would require some serious course overloads at one level or another or an extremely fast dissertation). Or, in the arts for example, you can become a professor with just an MFA, which would make it 6-7 years.

Sometimes longer than 12. Dissertations can take longer than expected. Transfering at any stage (or even between MA and Ph.D.) can add on a year or two because different schools have different requirements. Or the job market can be very bad one year and you might decide to hold off on defending for an extra year in hopes of better opportunities the next year. It is, however, best to finish within the time frame during which you're guaranteed funding; it sometimes runs out after the 5th or 6th year of grad school and if they don't extend it, you'll be stuck having to work an outside job while finishing and defending your dissertation.

Assuming that you are entering school as an undergrad, 7-8 years to get a full doctorate in whatever subject you want to teach. Some schools will accept Master's degrees for adjunct professors, but full professors typically need a doctoral degree (4 years for Bachelor's, 3-4 years to complete Doctorate).

You have to get your PhD. To do that, you first have to get your undergraduate degree (which takes 4 years). Then, depending on the subject area, you have to get your masters degree (which takes another 2 years). Some subject areas allow you to skip the masters degree and go directly to the PhD. Once in the PhD program, it takes 4-6 more years. So, to be a professor, it takes anywhere from 8-12 years in the US.

7-8 years if you go to school fulltime, non-stop. Good luck.
