I love thousands of songs from probably thousands of artists but I find it easy to pick a favorite artist for the '80s and that's the Cure. It's not that the 80's were bad. I can't do tht for any other decade of the rock era, not even the lame '70s! Actually, I consider the 80's to be a fantastic decade in rock. One of my favorite genres of music is psychedelic and most psychedelic bands seem to produce one maybe two great songs. The Cure incorporated psychedelic into a boatload of absolutely great songs during the '80s. ...and yes my first Cure CD was Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and the song I looked forward to the most was Just Like Heaven. In fact I put it on repeat for at least an hour and it sounded better and better with each pass. I still play it often even now. It is such an absolutely great song. It's hard to believe that it charted out at only 40 on the Hot 100, but then again most great music goes over the head of simpler minds and doesn't become a massive hit.
...and R.E.M.? Absolutely great as well. I still remember hearing "Radio Free Europe" for the first time in 1983. talk abuot a sign of great music to come, that was it.

I love them too! I don't really have a favorite song though, I like most of the songs.
