But really, that only lasts until the mob mentality takes over. But, also at a concert, I can't help but feel retarded when I bang my head or jump up and down and get all crazy; man I must be the only one who has these problems.

You're not the only one who feels awkward...I love the music, but I just don't like the whole 'concert scene'. It's just part of my personality. I can't just let myself go, it's so 'high school' to worry about the people around you, or feel 'retarded' dancing and jumping around like an idiot, I know, but that's just how I am most of the time. You can just be the guy in the back watching everyone else getting their heads cracked and the first one out the exit when all hell breaks loose. XD

yes, mosh pits are pretty ridiculous...and by ridiculous i mean silly not crazy/cool...i was at this one concert and it was this "amazing mosh pit" right? well, suddenly this guy's on the floor and everyone's yelling about as if the world is about to end...so the floor kind of clears and the shouting stops and it's just this guy hunting around the floor looking for a lost contact - ha

now, granted, that mosh pit may have been stupid - but it took that moment to see the absurdity in mosh pits....i mean, it's fun to go crazy and dance around and feel the energy - but moshing spends more time trying to thrash around than experience the music

Sometimes I feel silly jumping but once you get into it it's fine. I feel more silly not jumping actually, when everyone around me is. It can be quite scary too. I lost my footing one time in a massive moshpit and fell down. I couldn't get up and got trampled. Luckily a guy saw me and pulled me up. It would be easy to die that way and although I love to be up the front at concerts, I get out of the pit now if it gets too full on.

I love rock music, but I feel just as lame banging my head around in the pit as I do dancing to some retarded rap music. I guess I just dont like expressing my musical enjoymet with body movment.

No, I'm sure you're not the only one. Knowing that you are putting yourself in a position to possibly get maimed or wounded in some way, and throw some adrenaline on top of that, well you should feel awkward, you're really not in control of what happens in that pit.
