I agree, NASCAR basically has a "template" that all cars have to conform to. Other than the nose of the car that simulates the design of the production car it's named after, everything else on the car is basically the same as every other car. steel tube roll cage, and sheet metal.

In truth, not even a stock car's shape is stock. They say it "closely resembles" the production car's shape, but that doesn't mean anything, because all the cars closely resemble all the others. The only two things that are stock are the hood and winshield angles. Just the angles. :)

To put this into perspective, there was a boxy 86 aerostar van that used those same two angles from the space shuttle. They said it had the space aged technology and the aerodynamics of the space shuttle. Wow.

No it really isn't. The shape of the car has to do with aerodynamics and NASCAR specifications for safety and better driving.
