There is a "white toilet paper" like substance growing on some of the cacti in our back and front yards. A small portion will come off with high pressure spray from the hose, but always keeps coming back. I assume this is a fungus of some sort, but have been unable to find any information about it or a name. This stuff literally looks like someone wet toilet paper or tissue and threw it on the cacti. I believe it is slowly killing the cacti and would really like to know what this stuff is, and what can I do to remove it permanently??? Any gardening tips would be greatly appreciated too....Thanks!

I get the same thing on my cactus. I think it is a result of water on the cactus itself. This could also be the separation by the plant of the salts and other chemicals in your municipal water supply. I would suggest not getting them wet when you water, particularly when the weather may be wet or muggy.

It sounds as if you have a garden pest. I can't remember what it is, but we used to get the same thing on our house succulents. Best thing to do is to present your question to your local gardening center. They offer accurate information for free.
