It's the beginning of the dying process. Seriously, the body starts to "decay" in the respect that the cells are no longer young and strong.

I have noticed a few elderly people with an unpleasant odor but they were not well. Some medications may cause an odor. Also many elderly people are no longer able to bathe well. Dentures, if not properly cleaned, may produce odor. Incontinence causes odor if the person isn't able to clean themselves thoroughly. It's sad when our older folks can no longer do for themselves and no one is around or willing to help them. They need assistance with preparing meals, baths, shampoos, laundry, light housekeeping, shopping, changing their bedding, and even sometimes they can't afford health and beauty aids...soap, shampoos, deoderants, toothpaste, etc...as well as their food and medications. It's an area where family members, neighbors, church family, or volunteers is badly needed. Everyone of us, unless we die young, is going to reach old age and find ourselves with a whole set of new problems and too few solutions! Perhaps if each one of us would take it on as a personal challenge to offer assistance to just one elderly person, we would feel so good in knowing we made their winter years easier and less lonely.
