The best thing that you can do is join an activist group. For instance, over the years I have become more and more disturbed by the direction that we are forcing our environment into. So, I joined Greenpeace, and since then have been one of the number of people to sign petitions, write to my senators, voice my opinion and make change. Don't listen to the people who tell you to turn off your TV or get used to it or turn a blind eye. You know what is happening shouldn't be happening, and you know how you feel about it. Don't EVER be like the millions who just ignore it. Educate those around you to what you have seen and how horrible it truly is. Be the force of understanding and change. Best of luck, your heart is truly in the right place.

Hi Millie. I feel the same way. It's good to know that I'm not the only one. It's hard to turn that knob off though isn't it. I actually thought about talking about it on yahoo answers. Only in a different category. I hate the people responible for it, too. Sometimes I don't think we know how to deal with a distressing situation. Hang in there Millie. A word of caution: Some people in Goverment and Politics category can be extremely mean so I hope no one gives you a mean response. Gov & Politics isn't the category to go to get support. LOL I hope that you feel better. Know that I feel the same way.
OK I see that you've gotten the cold responses I told you about.
Go over to the Health category. I think theye'll be more understanding of this problem there Everyone is too heated about things in here all the time.

Being traumatized by the press is a method to incite reaction and concurrence with government policies and shocks people into action. All of us react to dramatic photos and the serve the purpose better than written text or speech. They will continue as long as the government and the press use them to polarize people for or away from the facts or at least as represented by the anchors, the spokesmen, the leaders. What makes you hate the Iraqis or the Taliban or the Lebanese...photos and it is very likely you have never met one of them. Churches and various aid groups use the same strategy and show sick, and starving children to milk your pocketbook...did you ever see a photo of a wholesome child on an appeal for money? I don't deny that such events happen with very tragic results but we are being manipulated and both the media and the government use flashbacks to remind us repeatedly so that we learn our lesson well.

i am traumatized too.I think the only way to fight back is to join a group, get involved so that people will know that it matters to you.In phila,pa we are having a meet up on human rights and civil rights. This is part of a week of local protests.I think at the least we have to be heard with others who feel the way we do.Remember that though Israel is far away, the weapons Israel uses are made and paid for by the US government with our tax dollars. The lobby group AIPAC has to lose their friendly association with our gov't to avoid the killings.Today, this is US policy to meddle in the MIddle East no matter who suffers.

Oh, sell your TV on ebay if it's not entertaining you properly.
You could consider that you are lucky to be alive. Lots of people volunteer abroad to help in civil war situations. They get anti-malaria injections before they go, so the sick and wounded don't have to take care of them instead.
Some people donate their own blood to help others. Some even donate a kidney. Some decide not to have more children than they can afford to raise. Some volunteer to have AIDS injected into them to help develop a cure. Some leave all their money to orphaned kids, some sign a donor card to help others. They seem like normal people who have avoided Trauma.
I guess you are just unlucky to be so sensitive and a TV-owner.
You could help out at your local hospice. People die there too, so you don't have to watch it happen on TV.
Or, you could plant car bombs. Car drivers kill people too, and how you must hate them!
That way, you could watch death and indulge your hatred. Two for the price of one! Go for it!

Turn off your TV and open a history book. You are here because people before you suffered and died. It has happened all over the globe throughout history. The reason there are countries at all is because people fought each other and the winner gets the land. If you are on land, someone fought and died for it. We can't escape our human history. We are all part of it and it will continue the rest of our lives.
