My brother is getting divorced from his wife of several years -- she left him, taking all their possessions with her, while he was at work one day and he came home to an empty apartment.
Subsequently, he has gone overseas and their divorce (and property settlement) is still pending.
Because the evil ex can't get in touch with him, she keeps harassing my parents, demanding that they give her her property (they kept some of their joint possessions in my parents' garage).
Can my parents get in trouble legally? It's not even their property to give to her, and my brother has as much right to the stuff as she does, particularly since she's already got most of their possessions with her.
Can my parents refuse to get involved?? If so, how?

No, I don't think that they can get into trouble. They need to tell the ex-inlaw, that they will wait until your brother comes home. Period. She will need proof that it is her's also. Like receipts.
They do need to contact your brother, so he knows what is going on. Maybe he can deal with her.
One other thing...She will have to list everything she took from their home, as it is joint property and should not have been removed until the divorce is final in court. Everything must be listed and the judge will decide what is divided or to be sold. She has no right in this. It is the law.

Either person can always hang up on a phone call without the other person's permission... *S*
They should tell your brother to get the belongings out of their house; then she has no argument with them. Storage facilites are handy and inexpensive.

no your parents dont have to give her anything. that is something between your brother and her. you parents are just keeping the stuff for him. let them two figure out who gets what.
