I want to name my daughter Aiyana Genevieve Slater. Does it sound ok? I am native american and Aiyana is supposed to be a N.A. name but everyone I talk to says it sounds like an african name. What do you think?

I know it doesn't matter what people think but if it is a totally awful name and she would get made fun of for it i don't want to do that to her.

I chose Genevieve because it is my grandmother's middle name and she is a very important person in my life.

actually who cares if you like it .. the question is would your child like this name? .. we always must think about it ... i am not native american but I can say that people sometimes judge people by their names ... but I think it is not really so important ..... so, if you really like it - give her this name

I don't think it sounds African at all. It definitely sounds ethnic, but I would have guessed Indian (from India) or some kind of Middle Eastern. Knowing that it is a Native American name, though, I think it fits there too. I think Aiyana is a beautiful name. Do you know what it means?

I think it is beautiful. It is not your main stream name. It is different and if it is to long give her a nickname. Aiyana is gorgeous, and Genevieve is like the old school names that you read about in books, that needs to come back. I love it.

It's a pretty name , go for it ! As for what she will feel about it , which of us were asked BEFORE we were named , huh ? Yet we all love our names , don't we ? That's because , ultimately , it isn't the name that's important , but the person behind it , right ?That's the reason we're all comfortable with our names ( because we love that person most ! ) You might , however, think again about choosing a name beginning with 'A' -- my son's forever cribbing about being the first one called upon to answer in class ; the first when Answer papers are collected ; when Report Cards are handed out , etc.! !

I don't think it sounds African at all. It's beautiful and I think it's great you're tapping into your heritage and giving your baby a sense of her identity. Genevieve is old fashioned sounding, but I'm into giving my children middle names after special people too so I think it's a really pretty name.

Well, if its NA then who cares what people think about it. My name is Shimon. Its a man's name. I'm a beautiful woman. But, I love my name. It makes me unique. Seriously, do you know anyone who's name is Shimon.
Anyway, Aiyana is a beautiful name. She'll be very grateful to have such a beautiful, unique name.

I think its a great name, but personally I think that If you like this name, you shouldn;t wait or care for the opinions of persons like me who even don;t know any thing about you or your baby. If you like it, just go ahead and name her, because it is the most important thing for your daughter. After 10 years, she should not feel that her name was selected because 12 crappy peoples on yahoo answer liked that, but because YOU CARED FOR IT.
