Everyone's right on with this one. It is not recommended in the first trimester..after that, there's no evidence it's harmful. I did it in two of my pregnancies and no problems. However, as mentioned, make sure the room is well ventilated. Highlights are "less dangerous" and they even make some henna colors (all natural, no harsh chemicals) which can be found at any Sally's (I shop there!). With all things, when in doubt, it's just not worth it. If anything, and I mean absolutely anything, turns out to be less than perfect with the baby, you'll constantly wonder if it was something you did or could have prevented. Natural is beautiful! ( I think that makes me a hypocrite )

No it's not bad, just make sure the room you are dying your hair in is well ventilated. You may want to wait until after you've had the baby because pregnancy causes a change in your system which can cause certain reactions to occur when either dying or perming one's hair. You could have a chemical reaction that will turn your hair green or bright neon red or cause your hair to all fall out, or become brittle and break easily.

I am pregnant and asked my OB/GYN and he told me that during the first trimester it is not recommended because they do not know fully what can happen. It is not worth the risk to the baby to dye your hair just in order to make yourself look better, or younger. Since most women do not find out until 6-8 weeks along, is it so hard to wait 4 more week until you are out of your first trimester?

I dyed mine while pregnant, but I have since found out it is not a great idea. It caused me no problems, nor my baby, but I read a report recently that said the really think hair dyes cause certain types of cancers. It makes sense because anything you put on your skin (your scalp in this case) goes through your blood stream.

Well I know you should not perm your hair when your pregnant. I'm not sure if the chemicals in a dye are just as bad as a perm or not. Only your doctor will know for sure.

There are people who say it's okay, and there are others who say to avoid it during pregnancy due to the chemicals and fumes. There's a slight chance of your scalp absorbing some of the chemicals and getting into your bloodstream, which in turn could affect the baby. There's no hard evidence that it does this, though.

It's the fumes from the hair color that aren't good. you breathe them in and it's not good for the baby. OB will and books will tell you to wait until after pregnancy.

when i was in my 1st trismester i went to a parlor and want to dye my hair, but they refuse to do it coz they say it might affect my baby..so i guess its more safe to dye your hair after giving birth.

You can put a rinse in your hair, but anything with ammonia in it may get into your bloodstream and affect the unborn child.
