The zoo is a horrible place where you pay to go see wild animals locked inside of cages, away from their homes. They are seperated from others of their type, and have no place to roam. They sit there so people can walk up to their cages and stare. It's a disgusting scene. Why do people not realize this?

The same reason why people would take children to the amusement parks, playgrounds, and so forth because they think the zoo to be as nice a place as the playgrounds, etc.. for the children. The zoo is also a pretty safe place for the children because the animals are all locked up and so won't attack or hurt the children.

The zoo is a great place where many animals are saved from extinction and introduced back into the wild. Why do you not realize this?

not all zoos are bad, although most are.. some zoos have programs to breed endangered animals for release back into the wild or for purposes of study.
Its the road side zoos which really are sick and should be shut down but we dont have the resources do to such - they are usually just rednecks with low self esteem who want to own wild animals and have set up private zoos to do such...
pet stores are worse than zoos - they get puppies from puppy mills and sadly stupid people support them buy buying these animals which condeems their parents to suffer again reproducing more low quality pups for the industry...

and zoos actually contribute a lot to the breeding of animals, ensuring species don't become extinct
