Short of finding an OB that will induce you now, there isn't anything that works. I had my membranes stripped twice, drank Castor oil twice, rubbed Castor oil on my belly, rubbed evening primrose oil on my cervix, had intercourse, tried nipple stimulation, ate every spicy food I could think of, and walked until I thought my legs were going to fall off; all of this with two pregnancies. Nothing works. Most other people will tell you the same thing. I know things are uncomfortable (probably an understatement), but just try to tough it out. If you can hang until 40 weeks, your chances of talking your physician into inducing you increase drastically. Good luck!

Ha!!! I've had 3 kids and with each....I've tried every single old wives tail....and they all fail!!!!

I know you're in pain right now...to stand up, it hurts....you can't lay on your back or belly...to walk more than a few minutes hurts...., you can't get a decent breath...and then the baby moves which 4 months ago was cute, but now you want to scream, would you please stay still....

Listen.. 2 more weeks and your doc will force that kid out....

Just hang in there....2 more weeks at the most....

You can do it....

Then you get a nice supply of Advil and Stool Softener...(has anyone prepped you for after the birth....maybe you should ask another question!!!!)

What's the rush? You may be uncomfortable now, but wait until you're up every two hours aroung the clock for feedings, diapers, and just worrying, with swollen aching breasts (even worse if you're bottle feeding--then you can't even pump to relieve the pressure), and an even more swollen somewhere-else. Take advantage of your difficulty getting around to rest as much as possible, while it's possible.
Go get a pedicure (you probably can't reach your toes anyway), take a slow romantic walk with your partner, do a good thorough housecleaning (you won't get another chance until little somebody's sleeping--and so are you). I went through 9 crossword puzzle books in my last month, and I kept them as a reminder of how hard the waiting was.
No one said pregnancy was easy, but it's worth all 40 weeks, if you are lucky enough to get that far.
If you're bent on it, have your membranes stripped by someone who knows what she's doing, masturbate (no kidding), have sex, walk a lot, like pacing the mall for 2-3 hrs a day, if you can. I couldn't walk so much because I was 3 cm dilated and 100% effaced for THREE WEEKS! I swear, I thought my son would just fall out on the floor every time I stood up. My membranes were stripped twice, and STILL nothing happened. Curtis was born with a ring around the top of his head, like he'd been wearing a yamilkah in utero. I finally went in to labor two days after Thanksgiving, five days before my due date.

The Goddess will relieve you of your burden in Her own time. Just trust that your body knows what its doing, evven if you haven't a clue.

Best of luck!

Visualize your cervix opening and the baby coming out... also think of how the contractions are going to feel! It worked for me.. but at first it only made me have braxton hicks contractions then I went into full blown labor a week later...

Although research says that there really isn't anything you can do to start labor :O) I hope something works though I know how you feel...!!

Forgot to tell yah to walk a lot too!! even though it might hurt...

There are no guarantees, but I have heard drinking a little castor oil, eating Mexican food, walking a lot, and jumping on the trampoline all help you go into labor.

If I were you I'd wait until 40 weeks though.

You can have your labor induced by a physician who authorizes to do so. Your best plan is to talk to your OB/GYN. I'm suprised they haven't spoke to you on this matter yet, with you being at 38 weeks.

You can't really do anything. It will happen when it's supposed to. You can walk around a lot and have sex but there is nothing you can do to totally start your labor.

Are you just fed up with being pregnant or is there a medical reason you want the baby out? The reality is (in normal cirumstances) the longer baby stays in, the better. He (she?) will come out when he's ready. I have 4 kids so I know how you feel. You just kind of want to reach in and pull him out. Good Luck.

This is gonna sound weird, Perverted & kinky, but trust me, I'm a father of 3 boys. If you want to go into labor quickly, HAVE SEX WITH THE BABY'S FATHER!!! (Hear me out on this one)

When a pregnant woman as far along as you are has sex, your orgasms will have your brain send signals to your uterus & cause contractions. Something to do with endorfins & hormones & your adrenalin glands. I swear to you it's true!
