The general equation of a straight line is:

y = mx + c

Where m is the gradient and c is the y-intercept.

For the given line,

y = 2x + 6

Let the gradient m1 = 2.

Let the equation of the perpendicular line be,

y = m2 x + c

Where two lines are perpendicular, the following is true,

m1 m2 = -1

Therefore

(2) m2 = -1

m2 = -1/2

Hence the equation of the perpendicular line is,

y = -1/2 x + 3

y=2x-9 or y=2x+-9 The slope is m and the y-intercept is the place the line crosses on the y axis or in an ordered pair the selection it quite is interior the y place (x,y) if the x is a nil. Y and x the two stand for coordinates in an ordered pair ( to boot the single listed on account which you already used y).

Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of one another. The given line has slope = 2, so the perpendicular line must have slope = -1/2

y = (-1/2)x + 3

i will answer all of your questions here

the only equation needed is y=Mx+B
y intercept is a point (0,b)
for a given slope M the perpendicular slope MP is found by solving (M)*(MP)=-1 for MP

.......................................................
general procedure is first write equation with value of M (or MP for perp. line) in leaving the B as "B" then find a point on line say (point is found from information given) say (x1,y1) substitute into above equation and only the "B" reamins which we solve for as usual
.....................................................
IF YOU ARE GIVEN YOU NEED STEPS
slope M & y int. B eq. of perpendicular line 1. solve M*MP=-1 for MP
2. use (0,B) for (x1,y1)
3. m=MP,x=x1,y=y1 solve
for B

equation & point " " 1. rewrite into y=Mx+B form
2. solve M*MP=-1 for MP
3. same as 3. above

2 points " " 1. find slope M=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
2. same as 2. above
3. same as 3 above

the general procedure above is fastest way to produce linear equations from given info
the table is merely a demonstrative example of this procedure
