Babe Ruth hit 659 with the Yankees, Mickey Mantle is second with 534. (Mantle played his entire career with the Yankees. Babe Ruth started with the Boston Red Sox and played part of his last season with the Boston Braves.)

Roger Maris in 1961 (61 home runs in one season)

For the shorter, 154 game annual schedule:
Babe Ruth in 1927 (60 home runs in one season)

Career: Babe Ruth (714 career home runs, all but 55 for the Yankees -- the 55 were for BOSTON, leaving 649 home runs while a Yankee).
